My friends and family comfort me more than anything else in this world. Below is a group picture from Jon's and my wedding - both of our immediate families, along with most of our closest friends were able to make it to Playa del Carmen, Mexico. It was so fabulous to be able to share this day with them all.
Zulu, unfortunately, wasn't able to make it to the wedding (and I consider her family) - so here's a picture of her.
On our way up to Alexandria this past weekend for Carrie's bachelorette party, we decided to stop by the Middy in good ol' St. Joe. It wasn't quite how we remembered it from our college days at St. Ben's. The walls are white, with a Nascar checkered border at the top. The bathrooms have stainless steel stalls and automated faucets. But...not everything had changed...the bartendar was the same guy that worked there 10 years ago and the prices were still cheap - Kamakazi shots for $3.75 each and a round of 4 vodka/soda drinks for $12.00. Gotta love the small townie bars.
Last night, we had some friends over for my 30th birthday. We celebrated by serving up a Mexican feast - complete with a taco bar, chips, guacamole, 2 kinds of salsa, fruit, veggies and of course, margaritas and pina coladas.
Thanks to everyone who was able to make it. It was a great way to ring in the next year of my life.
The MN Zoo has an African safari exhibit right now - and while it isn't quite like the real thing, I definitely think it is worth checking out. They have 2 giraffes, 5 zebras and a bunch of gazelles. They are quite playful too - chasing each other around the wide open space the zoo has provided for them. We also got a close glimpse of the Siberian tigers enjoying the nice weather and playing in the water.
I always love going to the zoo and seeing the animals - especially the monkeys - but I always leave feeling a little sad for them. I know zoos are helping animals worldwide through various conservation efforts and this is a way to bring attention to these issues; but I just wish zoos could provide a bit more space for the animals and make it more realistic. The MN Zoo has done a good job (for the most part) enhancing their spaces; but when I see prairie dogs trying to climb up a metal wall that has been built to keep them in - I wonder if this is really beneficial for those in captivity.
