While searching for new music on emusic.com, I discovered a band that somehow may be helping to spread the word about our favorite blogging tool: VOXTROT. I listened to a few songs, purely out of curiosity, and think they're actually quite good. Here are a couple of their songs. All we need to do is get them to switch over from Blogger to Vox.
The tracklist for this year's "Cities 97 Sampler" was just released. The CD comes out November 16th. What do you think?

The weater on September 30th in Minnesota can be hit or miss, but yesterday, Summit Brewery lucked out with a gorgeous fall day. It was their 20th Anniversary celebration and thousands of people converged on Harriett Island in St. Paul to enjoy the fresh air, live music and Summit beer on tap. Actually, so many more people showed up than expected that Summit had to bring in extra beer trucks just to support the crowd.
The line-up was great:
12:00pm - Minnesota Pipes & Drums
12:30pm - The Alarmists
1:30pm - Big George Jackson
2:30pm - Tapes ’n Tapes
4:00pm - The Suburbs
5:30pm - Richard Thompson
6:45pm - Soul Asylum
8:30pm - Cake
Jon and I arrived towards the end of Tapes 'n Tapes and found a perfect spot just to the left of the sound board. Both Richard Thompson and Soul Asylum were fabulous.
Then, Cake took the stage. This is when things got a bit interesting. John McCrea, the lead singer, was quite intoxicated and incredibly surly. He shouted to someone in the crowd to "Shut Up!" after they requested a song; he lambasted the crowd for not buying albums, but stealing them off the internet; he demanded someone come on stage to fix a mirror ball that wasn't working; and voiced his disappointment in people that don't take pride in their work. Despite his complete malapropos behavior, we stayed through the entire show...'cause, honestly, it was a good show.
What's your musical horoscope? (Put your music player on shuffle and write down the first 10 songs that come up.) Inspired by Stephanie.

These songs are all thanks to Jon - he uses my computer to upload songs for his iPod. I like it - it's an easy way for me to feel like I have an iPod without having to spend the money to purchase one for myself. And it gets me to expand what I listen to more than I usually do.
My first concert was The Jets at the Metrodome - it was some sort of Girl Scout thing. I remember having a blast and thinking it was so cool. I'm such a dork.
John - for sure!
I think Imagine is one of those great songs with thought-provoking lyrics. I only wish we could all live in a world a little bit more like this. Maybe someday...
Imagine there's no Heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today
Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one
Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world
You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
